What Is Spravato?

Spravato (esketamine) is a prescription nasal spray designed for adults with treatment-resistant depression—when traditional oral medications haven’t provided enough relief.

Spravato works by targeting NMDA receptors in the brain, helping improve communication between neurons and encouraging the growth of new neural pathways. This can lead to better overall mental health and emotional resilience.

Am I Eligible For Spravato?

You may be eligible for Spravato if you're 18 or older and have been diagnosed with:

  • Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD): Depression that hasn’t improved after trying at least two different antidepressants at the right dose and duration.
    or

  • Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) with Acute Suicidal Ideation or Behavior: Ongoing depression with recent suicidal thoughts or actions.

Spravato may not be right for you if you have:

  • Allergies to esketamine or ketamine

  • Certain blood vessel conditions

  • A history of brain bleeding

If you're a candidate, treatment must be administered under the Spravato REMS (Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy) Program, a safety program required for all patients.

What Are The Steps To Get Access To Be Considered For Spravato?

White Structure

1

Call our office for an initial evaluation at (720) 469-2845 to schedule an appointment with our Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners or book online here  (hyperlink booking page)

2

If you’ve been treated for mental health elsewhere, having access to your past medical records as well as your past medication history records are helpful for the prior authorization process.  You can fax those records to (720) 222-5729.

3

After your initial consultation, your PMHNP will discuss treatment options, determine whether vital signs and/or labs are needed and whether they can submit an order for Spravato to a REMS pharmacy

If appropriate, your provider will submit an order for Spravato to a REMS certified pharmacy (hyperlink REMS Spravato) and they will determine if a prior authorization is needed.   Your insurance company may require your provider to submit documentation to verify diagnosis, past trials of medications and provide authorization to move forward with Spravato.  This process may take between 1-2 weeks depending on your insurance company.
